Strategy Large VW contingent to present 2.0 strategy at Auto Expo February 3, 2020February 3, 2020 Nehal Chaliawala, Ketan Thakkar MUMBAI: The world’s largest car maker Volkswagen Group is flying down its biggest contingent of senior executives comprising 100 people and five board members in the coming week for The Auto Expo 2020 to define a new road map for India. The group is eyeing a combined market share of 5% by 2025. The group will also unveil its biggest line up for the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2020, preceded by the group night on Monday, where five brands — Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini — will showcase their individual important models for coming years. The Volkswagen Group Night is an engaging platform held by the company ahead of major motor shows like Frankfurt, Geneva, amongst others to interact with the global media and show their way ahead. India will be hosting its first ever event. Bernhard Maier, chairman of the management — board of Skoda Auto, and Volkswagen brand’s global sales head Juergen Stackmann will be present to share the next steps of India 2.0 strategy announced in 2018. The senior executives across functions right from sales and marketing, R&D, quality, sourcing and manufacturing have come down to India to understand the market intimately, at a time when new entrants from Korea and China adopt an ultra aggressive road map for India, with deep pockets. While the luxury brands Audi, Porsche and Lamborghini are missing from the show, lead mass market brands Skoda and Volkswagen have returned to the motor show. Between both these brands, the group will be showcasing over 12-15 products, largely led by SUVs. The group had committed ¤1billion (Rs. 7,982 crore) for the Indian market to bring out a range of products under its MQB A0 modular platform to suit the local market needs. The first product on the architecture is likely to hit the market in a years’ time and group intends to use the product designed and developed for Indian market to some of the key emerging markets for the future. Under the new plan, the Skoda brand has assumed the development and design responsibility for the group in the Indian market.
