Abheek Barua, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of HDFC Bank, has been in the financial sector for 24 years now. He has been earlier been with CRISIL (Standard and Poor,India), Merrill Lynch and the Economic Times. His previous assignment was as Chief Economist, ABN-AMRO Bank. He has advised the Planning Commission, the RBI and the Finance minister including the consultation group advising the RBI governor. He has also been in a number of key consultative committees of the Indian Banks’ Association, CII and the Bombay Chamber of Commerce. He is a regular commentator on CNBC and NDTV, writes a fortnightly column for Business Standard (a major business daily) and is a regular speaker at finance and economics conferences both in India and abroad. He was educated at the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Maryland, USA.He publishes regularly in academic and semi-academic journals and his paper on financial inclusion in India (2015) was rated the most widely read paper on the social Science Research Network

He has also worked for over 8 years at General Electric in various senior finance roles in different business verticals like Energy, Capital, and Healthcare in India and abroad.
A graduate of Panjab University (Class of 2001) and Indian School of Business (Class of 2010), Abhishek was also a part of the Executive Management Program in Harvard University. He held an all India Rank of 15 in CA Final exam from The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
